Use the form below, or email wrenchintheworkscollective [at] gmail [dot] comIf you're contacting us about performing music here, there's a few things you should know:
Be sure you understand our mission (see "about.") While there is definitely room in this mission for music, we are not primarily a music venue, and don't have any kind of booking manager or the like. The Wrench is an anti-oppressive space and we will NOT provide a mouthpiece for oppressive lyrics. No misogynist, racist, queer-bashing, etc lyrics or language will be tolerated here.
We do not pay blanket liscensing fees to ASCAP, BMI or SESAC. Mainly cuz we can't afford it, but also cuz we want to hear original local music, not the crap that's on corporate radio. Specifically, each song performed must be one of the following:
· The performer's (your) own original music; or
· Performed with written permission by the copyright holder or licenser; or
· In the public domain (*it's more complicated than one might think*); or
· Licensed under a scheme, such as Creative Commons, that encourages the sharing of cultural artifacts.
If you don't follow the above, just take it as NO COVERS. No joke. ASCAP agents have showed up regularly at the Wrench and just ONE cover song will get us sued for about 10 times more $ than we have, and we will be shut down it it will be your fault and we will make sure eveyone knows it's your fault. So No Covers.
The Wrench is a multi-use community space; we house a library, artwork, and electronics that have been contributed by collective and community members. We expect your help in avoiding damage to these community resources.
There's plenty of places to go and drink (and many of us do) but few public spaces that are welcoming to those in recovery or underage. We intend to be one. So No Alcohol.
Perhaps because of the above policies, we have no money. Apparently there's more $ in booze and sleaze than in fair-trade coffee and social justice. Thus we cannot guarantee income for any event. We generally ask somewhere between $5 and $10 at the door, but we don't turn anyone away for lack of funds. We split the admissions, and you are welcome to sell CD's, t-shirts etc. We do our best to promote events and expect you to do the same.
The Wrench has a professional, if small, sound system with a remote 8-channel mixing station, snake cable, effects, and monitor speakers. Individual Wrench members may be able to provide additional equipment or expertise when available should you have exceptional needs. Or, performers can choose to go all-acoustic as our space is quite intimate.
If you've gotten this far: Wrench in the Works is a collective, operated by its members. We don't "rent out" the space to outside parties. All events (workshops, speakers, art shows, music etc) are sponsored and hosted by members who take an interest and volunteer to run the event. If this all sounds appropriate to you and to your work and your fans, let us know more about what you do and your message will be passed on to the general membership.
Thanks,
Wrench in the Works Collective
